Heart Dog Blog bio picture
  • Welcome to the Heart Dog Blog.

This is where you can go a little deeper than my image galleries, and get a glimpse of the behind the scenes workings. Images and stories here are what capture my heart, and I hope, yours, too.

Animals, and in particular, dogs, have a very special place in my heart. I have always felt a connection with them, their honesty, absolute acceptance, faithfulness. They share love so abundantly, and are such an inspiration.

Sharing life with an amazing dog, my "heart dog", Borias, brought me to this path of dog photography. I felt a great desire to have images chronicling our life together, and am now very grateful I've amassed quite a huge collection! They share such a brief period of time with us, yet teach us so much. An image has the power to evoke such strong memories and emotions, I feel so blessed to be able to do this, and to also give lasting memories to others.

Bella and Otto | San Diego Dog Photography

My first holiday mini-session was with two delightful dogs, Bella and Otto. Bella is a bundle of exuberant energy, who wags her whole body in happiness. Otto was a cool little…well not so little, as he does enjoy his treats hehe…cocker with a huge smile.
Well, needless to say, it was quite difficult keeping this session very “mini”! It’s hard to stop taking photos with a pair this cute

Minna | San Diego Cat Photography

I love to have sessions with the feline variety of our furkids. Especially when they’re so beautiful and expressive as this girlie. She’s an only pet, very doted on and loved….and oh so cute! My camera didn’t bother her one bit, or my wheelchair. Her dad uses a powerchair. We tried and tried to get her to play with some toys at first, and she just looked at us like we were nuts ha ha. Then she got really turned on when I wiggled my fingers under a towel on a chair, and was leaping at that, and off again. So funny, but really hard to get a shot! I managed to get a couple that I just love, with the big huntress eyes:)

Also cool, she’s a rescue from the same shelter as my 10 month old kitten, Fosse! Yay shelter kitties!!

San Diego Dogs Invited to Set World Record!

Guinness World Records® Officials will be at PETCO Park’s annual “Dog Days of Summer” event to count dogs, as PETCO attempts to set the world record for most dogs at a professional sporting event. The record setting attempt will take place during the Wednesday, July 27, 2011 7:05 pm game as the San Diego Padres take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. To help encourage attendance of pets and their parents, tickets will be free of charge to accepted applicants courtesy of PETCO.

An official Guinness World Records® representative will be in attendance to verify  the record and share the result with attendees by the end of the night. Last year’s sellout event was open to 500 dogs. However, this year the event has been expanded to allow up to 750 dogs to participate and become part of history.

“Last year’s event was our biggest and best yet, which is why we are excited to set the record for the most dogs at a professional sporting event,” says Greg Seremetis, Vice President of Marketing for PETCO. “At PETCO we are passionate about having our dogs active in all aspects of our life and thanks to our partnership with the San Diego Padres, this includes inviting hundreds of dogs out to the ballpark.”

Dogs will also have the opportunity to participate in a pre-game “tail” gate party and an on-field pet parade, where prizes will be awarded to costumed dogs in a variety of categories. Once the game has commenced, dogs and their parents are invited to cheer on the Padres from the “Park in the Park” area, which will be closed off to all fans not participating in the “Dog Days of Summer” event. In the spirit of PETCO’s commitment to “Think Adoption First,” local shelters will be in attendance to educate the public on the importance of pet adoption and help find pets a loving home.

Applications to attend the event are available at all 22 San Diego-area PETCO and Unleashed by PETCO locations while supplies last.  They are also available to download from www.petco.com/petcopark and all applications will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.  PETCO will oversee the application and ticketing process, as well as provide animal care staff on the day of the event. In order to participate, all dogs must show proof of current vaccinations and all applications must be submitted by June 20, 2011.

For more information, please visit www.petco.com/petcopark.

Two Poodle Brothers }San Diego Dog Photography

My first glimpse of Bayley and Paolo was through their beautiful bay window in the front of their North Park home. Major cuteness ahead! I just love it when I get to shoot in a great house, where the dogs get the run of the place.

Bayley is the apricot boy, and Paolo is the white one–who has also been diagnosed with soft tissue cancer. My second session in a row with a dog surviving this disease. Doing really well actually! It’s something else to see the amazing spirit these dogs have.

These two poodle ‘brothers’ were just UHdorable!! I love how when a large poodle jumps up on you, it’s like a feather. They’re so dainty and light! What wonderful personalities…I think it was Bayley who immediately found a squeaky toy I use in my sessions, and made off with it victoriously keeping it from Paolo. They were both great for the camera, even sitting together for brief periods. Very brief periods ha ha!

So here they are, Bayley and Paolo!
